R & D

Our engineering development has been focused on accumulating and enhancing cutting-edge technologies to meet various customers’ needs.
Because we are a camera manufacturer, our engineering development is naturally geared toward image pickup device applied technology, image signal processing technology, and data transmission technology. CIS devotes our effort in those technologies for both hardware and software. Our success in “high-density mount”, “high speed” and “high performance” is the hallmark of our continuous engineering effort, however we continue to research high speed data transmission technology and intelligent camera technology for future products. Here, you will find our development results and some engineering activities we are currently working on.

This is one of our most successful engineering results. We were able to create the fastest cameras, such as 4 times and 6 times speed, in the industrial camera field, utilizing standard CCDs.
Utilizing standard CCDs, not the particular kind of high speed CCDs, we maximized the volume efficiency from mass production.

⇒ Price benefit with utilizing standard CCD = High Speed Camera with reasonable price
⇒ Quality benefit with utilizing standard CCD = High Speed and High Picture Quality
⇒ Variety benefit with utilizing standard CCD = Full lineups with high speed

We’ve been developing a high speed camera utilizing 5 mega pixels CCD. Our 5 mega pixel camera will be introduced to the market shortly.

CMOS Technologies are under a transitional stage in the development of performance upgrade. The CMOS image sensor utilized for consumer HDTV camcorder is a good example. It has been said that picture quality of CMOS has caught up with the one of CCD.The advanced, highly-functional CMOS sensor suitable for machine vision application has not been developed for practical use yet, but it will become the core of image sensor technology in the near future. To be prepared for new coming CMOS sensor, and to meet customer’s needs promptly, CIS is actively working on developing the technology.

A machine vision standard for digital transmission (※1), “PoCL”, has been officially accepted as a global standard recently by AIA (※2). This is the only standard that offers digital signal and power transmission along a single cable. We, CIS, proposed this technological standard to the AIA and set up an organization in Japan as well to promote it.
CIS plays an active role in bringing standards to the market, improving the overall environment that will enable customers to use the new products with confidence, as well as developing advanced technologies.

This is one of our challenges to meet customers’ leading edge, advanced needs. The development goals we set are for both security applications and for machine vision applications. We put our efforts in developing application software to meet various applications, and in developing synergies with partner companies.

The engineering mission of CIS is to develop and accommodate leading edge, advanced functional capability in our products based on customers’ needs. Your honest and forthright comments and suggestions all comprise an invaluable asset for us. We sincerely look forward to hearing from you, and look forward to serving you and your business with our products.
